:: Time of Medicine Moon(s) :: Teachings from Hawaii

ʻĀina, By Naiʻa Lewis

“As humans, we are sustained by the natural world, as we are nature. Sun and rain are key ingredients but so is the light of the moon which provides us life-giving vibration, and channel the light of the sun in a unique way that guides in the darkness of our nights.”

— Naiʻa Lewis

Hawaiians recognize the gravitational power of the moon.

Hina, the goddess of the moon, is Ka-wahine-umeume;
the woman who draws
entices
and attracts

The moon draws the tides and affects the flow of magma.
She even moves the sap in the plants.
The Hawaiian lunar calendar has names and wisdom for each phase of the cycle. The days following the Full Moon are known as the Medicine Moons called Lāʻau

This is the time of harvest.
The time when the active constituents are drawn to the leaf tips.
This is when the flow of life is at its fullest.
So that is when they are harvested.

What is being drawn forth in you dear one as the moon flows? And pulls your gifts forth into the world? What is pouring from your heart now?

As the ocean lifts her shimmering face in reply to the moon’s call. As the sap flows rich with medicine. As the magma rises and flows onward.

Blessings for the full moon to you my friends.
